Beach Fence
2011
Fiber
38 x 39
I couldn't decide whether to make a traditional quilt or an art quilt so I did both with this piece. I started with the traditional block called rail fence and then thought, "Hey, I ought to put an actual fence on it, too." I like the wooden fences on beaches hence "Beach Fence". The upholstery fabric used here and there in the beach area helps you get the feel of sand. And the thick upholstery fabric used for the fence helps you feel the wind-weathered wood. I especially love the colors of the Caribbean so I used those in the ocean. Looking at this quilt on your wall will make you feel like you are taking a walk down a lovely beach.

Materials: Cotton commercial fabrics, hand-painted fabrics (with textile paint and oil sticks), upholstery fabrics, cotton threads, rayon threads, hand-spun wool yarn
Processes: machine-pieced, fused, appliqued, hand-sewn, machine-quilted

This quilt was on display at the International Quilt Festivals October, 2012 - August, 2013.
