Wind blowing across the Himalayan plateau. Monks chanting. Moon rising. Prayer flags flapping. As the flags deteriorate in the wind, their messages will be carried to the far corners of the world. I created this small quilt by scanning fabrics I had previously made and I printed those scanned fabrics and used pieces of them for the background as well as some original painted fabrics. I hand appliquéd the monks and the moon. I added text to the sheer fabric of the fused prayer flags and to the background with Transfer Artist Paper. To finish, I machine-quilted, added hand stitching, and hand-couched yarn to the edge. It has a hanging sleeve sewn onto the back with a wood slat with hooks. Ready to hang.
