Artists Just Want to Have Fun

How do artists have fun with their craft? Sometimes we move away from the medium in which we work in order to excercise some other creative muscles. Here’s an excercise you can do to have a little creative fun. Open a dictionary to a random page. Then select a few words; maybe 8-10 words. Then rearrange their order and compose a small poem.

Don’t think too hard. Just try to have fun with the experience. Maybe even write several poems with the same words in a different order. Did the mood of your writing change from poem to poem? Did the theme change poem to poem? You’ll be surprised at what you can do if just take time to create.

And then, if you want to exercise those visual creative muscles, draw a sketch or paint a picture to go with your poem. It’s fun to be an artist.
