The Little Transformations collages were made to express thoughts about changes and phases of life. The leaves and twigs are metaphors for these changes; the planet shapes and hatch marks represent time passing.
In making this series, I began with white, cotton fabric and dyed it with fiber-reactive dyes using a method that would yield patterns to the cloth to help tell a story. Then, I fused the various pieces of cloth together to create a background that would feed the imagery I had developed from my photographs. Next, I created layers with the images by screen printing and stamping with fabric paints. Then, I fused the collages to a felt backing and added hand stitching to add more texture and meaning. To complete the adventure, the stitched collages were fused to a canvas that was wrapped in black linen. I glued felt to the back to make it neat and pretty and hanging wire was attached. They are ready to hang and would look good hung as a group as shown in the second photo.
