On a Pedestal
Not For Sale (Maybe someday; but not for now)
Outside frame 17” x 17”
Actual artwork dimensions 12” x 12”
I began this artwork by playing with thickened Procion MX dyes and rolling them onto cotton broadcloth just for fun. After that was done, I realized I had a fragment of an embroidery in the same colors. The embroidery fragment came from a tailor in Vietnam. He had scraps of leftovers all over the floor that were going to be thrown away. So I gathered the ones I liked and he sold them to me by wieght. This piece matched the colors of the fabrics perfectly. I fused it on and added some stitches for security.
I added handstitches here and there to mimic the shapes on the embroidery. To finish it, I added cross stitching along the borders and fused it to a felt backing.
I used double sided tape and stitches to secure the artwork to a white mat board on a foam board and then framed it in a wooden, black frame. The back is taped with framing tape and hanging wire is attached. It is ready to hang
