I began this artwork as a celebration of the form of a female deity from ancient Egypt on a necklace I own. I have always loved the grace and elegance of that form. I took a photo of the necklace and then I modified the shape in the photo and made a thermofax screen of it. I dyed fabrics with Procion MX dyes, cut them into shapes and fused them onto a felt backing. The top, blue fabrics are cotton broadcloth and the bottom, multi-colored fabric is silk.
I screened her on using fabric paint and also screened on the faint flower designs with fabric paint. The flowery orb was also screened on using fabric paint and it can symbolize a sun, a moon, a ball, etc. Her outstretched arms, to me, indicate she is happy and celebrating. The brightly colored edges (dyed cotton fabric) were fused on top and machine stitched.
I used double sided tape and stitches to secure the artwork to a white mat board on a foam board and then framed it in a wooden, black frame. The back is taped with framing tape and hanging wire is attached. It is ready to hang
