Rising
Outside Dimensions 10” x 8” x 1.5”
Actual Artwork 6” x 4”
I began this artwork as a celebration of the form of a female deity from ancient Egypt on a necklace I own. I have always love the grace and elegance of that form. I took a photo of a necklace and then I modified the shape in the photo and made a thermofax screen of it. I dyed fabrics with Procyon MX dyes, cut them into shapes and fused them onto a felt backing. The top, blue fabric is cotton broadcloth and some of the bottom fabric squares are cotton and some are silk.
I screened her on using fabric paint and also screened on the orb design with fabric paint. the orb can symbolize a sun, a moon, a ball, etc. Her outstretched arms, to me, indicate she is happy and celebrating. I added handstitching in patterns to reference the act of rising up.
The artwork is fused to a canvas that is wrapped in black linen. I glued felt to the back to make it neat and pretty and hanging wire was attached. It is ready to hang.
