Rising From the Sea is part of my Goddess Series. This artwork was inspired by “Mythos” written by Stephen Fry and The Birth of Venus. She is a Goddess rising from a seashell and celebrating a new day. The blue background is cotton broadcloth immersion dyed to resemble the sky. The rainbow fabric behind her is silk that I painted with thinned dyes and overprinted with fabric paint. The lower, multicolor fabric is silk that I screened on with thickened dye. The Goddess and her halo were screened on with fabric paint. The fabrics were fused to a felt backing, had stitching was added, and the seashell was sewn onto it. It is mounted with double-sided tape and stitching to a white matboard and framed. There is no glass. It is ready to hang.
